The honor and distinction of the Eagle Scout rank can only be achieved through hard work and commitment to the ideals of the Scouting movement. On May 20, Three Harbors Council is proud to recognize the 2017 Eagle Scout Class.

This achievement is so rare, that only 6% of Scouts earn the Eagle rank. Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by more than 2 million young men. Once an Scout advances to the Eagle Scout rank, they will remain an Eagle Scout for the rest of their life. Eagle Scouts can be found represented in the military service, academy graduates, in higher education and academia, major professions, the clergy, business and politics.

Eagle Scout Class Honoree
H. Carl Mueller

Chairman & CEO, Mueller Communications

Carl Mueller has carried the core values and principles he learned in Scouting, the Scout oath and law -- most important "Be Prepared" and "help other people at all times" throughout his career.  The phrase “climbing the ladder” to professional achievement does not apply to Carl.  Milwaukee Magazine described his career path as a “vocational obstacle course.”

Carl Mueller worked his way through college at many jobs: factory worker, highway construction worker and a private detective. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a degree in Russian, Carl went on to do graduate work in Journalism at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. There, he was a newspaper reporter and editor, press secretary to a Wisconsin governor, Assistant Chancellor at UWM and Chief of Staff to a Milwaukee mayor.

Carl joined Scouting with Troop 133 at Epiphany Lutheran Church, was a patrol leader and camped at Indian Mound Scout Reservation and Camp Ammon at the Wisconsin State Fair Park. He joined Sea Explorer Post 36 at Northminster Presbyterian Church and became a Bosun's Mate.

As an adult Carl started as a Cub Scout leader and then served as Scoutmaster for Troop 100 in Shorewood for 10 years. Both his sons became Eagle Scouts in Troop 100.  He spent many summer weeks at LeFeber Northwoods Camp with the Scouts, many who became Eagle Scouts.

In 1991, Carl settled into what has been the most exciting chapter of his professional career – launching his own communications firm. The things he learned and the people he met along the way helped him start and grow the company. Learning to be a good Scout helped Carl become a good citizen and successful business leader.

Part of the afternoon will feature fellowship time to meet with business and civic leaders from the community from career fields that Eagle Scouts have interests in. A short survey will be sent out to those emails we have on file, but if you do not receive one, please send your career interest(s) to Jennifer Earhart at Jennifer.Earhart@Scouting.org.
